CHAPTER NINE

Syra stopped breathing. She was having a hard time thinking past her body’s desire to climax, but Marco’s questions had her mind tripping over itself. She hated admitting that it had been a year since Joel touched her. Her lips had answered for her—her mind and body eager to answer whatever demand Marco had because it knew the pleasure that was on the other end of it. Even now she was having a hard time keeping her mouth shut when he asked her how many times she thought about him when Joel touched her. She was ashamed to admit the truth, even if it would never leave these walls.

“Estrellita,” Marco taunted as he stalked toward her. He stopped short of touching her, and she had to fight to keep herself rooted. She wanted to lean back up against the window and let Marco take her however he saw fit. “Tell me what I want to know,” he whispered the words like he was afraid if he said them too loud she’d tell him a truth he wasn’t ready to hear.

How did she tell the man she let go that he was never far from her thoughts?

How did she tell Marco that though she had been in love with Joel, it didn’t hold a candle to what she felt for him?

Syra and Joel’s relationship had long since run its course, but Syra held on because she had chosen him. She thought if she worked harder to be what he needed, their relationship would go back to how it was in the beginning, but it hadn’t. They were never the same after she left that first time, and it only got worse when she went back to him the second time around. Syra may have signed and delivered the divorce papers a couple of months ago, but their relationship had been over long before that.

“Is that really what you want to know?” Syra’s tone was breathless. She knew talking about her past relationships in this space with Marco was a mistake. She was only here for one night. This wouldn’t be like last time with them rekindling their whirlwind romance. There was no need to hash out something they had broken.

“I didn’t come here to talk.” She pulled her lips back into a smirk. “I came here to fuck, Marco. If that’s not what we’re doing, I can call a cab.” Her stomach dropped at the idea of leaving him, and that should have been the only warning she needed to put an end to this, but she kept herself steady—waiting for him.

Marco let out a low laugh and his eyes darkened. He ran the back of his hand under his chin; the move shouldn’t have been sexy but it was. She could feel his hands on her body, and it made her shift on her legs.

“As you wish, estrellita.” He walked back toward his couch and took a seat. He leaned back, letting his hands stretch across the back of the couch.
